Everyone talks about transformation as a noble pursuit, and while I agree, let us not discount the fact that the act of transformation itself is an invitation to undergo a painful process.
You might be wondering, why is this journey so painful? Because when we talk about transformation, we are not merely talking about change
Change is a temporary adaptation to meet an immediate need. But transformation is a complete deviation from one point to another—an utter disillusion of what you are familiar with, a venture into the unknown to discover something new for the profound benefits it brings.
True transformation brings under scrutiny your darkest traits, your shameful habits, and the aspects of yourself that even you are not proud of. It is this unapologetic examination of the good, the bad, and the ugly within you that makes transformation so fearful and not a desired pursuit for many.
To transform, something must die.
Something old must give way to something new. If you envision yourself transforming, know that you have also raised your hand to be challenged in the very places where you are weakest, but most importantly, in the very places where you are least proud.
When people speak of transformation, they often only envision the better state of where they are trying to go. It’s an easy exercise to say, “I am where I am, or I am what I am, because of this circumstance and because of that person.” But that’s not how transformation works. True transformation is accountability.
While there may be external elements and factors that play a critical role in where you are today, there is a high likelihood that your hands are not clean from this very doing. And it is your own hands you must first look at with extreme scrutiny to make transformation a reality.
You have to dig into the depths of the places where you least want to look, despite how uncomfortable they are. I’m certain that’s why you least want to look there—because it points the finger back at you, saying, “You are not all that you claim you are.”
But it is through this courageous exercise that transformation comes about. To completely undo something and build it from the ground up, except this time much, much better and stronger than before.
Let’s not embark on an endeavor just for the sake of saying, “I am changing,” or “I am in desperate need of change.” You are not after change; you are after transformation, and it is terrifying because to truly make that happen, you ought to hold yourself accountable. Until you can take responsibility in the areas of your life where you have contributed to where you are today, the solution you seek will always evade you. Because until you can admit to what you need to fix—truly need to fix—the actual solution will always be a mystery.
Hence, this is why most people stay in situations they know are not good for them, but they are unable to act towards a state that is good for them. A portion of them is too afraid to admit, “I am contributing to my own hell.” The road to heaven is clear. All you have to do is confess. This is not a play on religious metaphors. It’s a very polite way of asking, can you own up to your own burdens? No matter how minor they may be, can you acknowledge your contribution to your current state?
Otherwise, the future you dream of will always be an illusion you desperately seek, a dream you will never get to see. Are you ready to transform? Do you have the courage to admit to yourself in those areas where you are weakest, areas that need to be brought under the most intense magnification for scrutiny—not by anyone else, but by yourself?
I know this path is daunting, especially when shadows of self-doubt and whispers of inadequacy weigh heavily on your heart. But remember, facing yourself is not a sign of weakness; it’s a testament to your incredible strength. It’s okay to feel vulnerable—vulnerability is the birthplace of authenticity and courage.
Transformation is not about erasing who you are; it’s about embracing all facets of yourself and allowing the old wounds to heal into scars of wisdom. Each step you take into the depths of your soul brings you closer to the light within—a light that has always been there, waiting patiently to guide you.
So, I ask you again, are you ready to transform? The journey ahead may be challenging, but it is also filled with the promise of self-discovery and profound growth. You are not alone in this voyage; countless others have walked this path and emerged stronger, more confident, and more themselves than ever before.
Take a deep breath, summon your courage, and step into the mirror of self-reflection. Embrace the beautiful, flawed, resilient person you are.
The world awaits the unveiling of your true self, and you deserve to experience the fullness of your own potential.
Thank you for reading.
Until the next one, please take care of yourself.
